My dad who was a cowboy till the day he died had a saying about a few “Wanna be’s” he’d say; ” that boy wouldn’t make a pimple on a cowboy’s butt” and when I was riding a cranky or mule headed horse he’s always say; “Ride him for what he’s worth and you’ll get along fine” and I always knew what he meant and that he was right.

From the time the sun rises to the time it sets, you can find a cowboy or cowgirl doing what they love best, riding the range to put food on their tables, cutting the herds to make a check, racing out of the gate to win state, but they all have the same goal, to ride God’s gift to the cowboys and cowgirls of western life style.

Some cowboys are born, some are self- made. It’s not about riding in a rodeo, it’s about putting heart into everything you do.You don’t have to have a southern accent, there are plenty of cowboys that come from out west and up north. Remember cowboys started in the west not the south. It’s a way of life, some people have what it takes others don’t.

Now I’m seeing all of this stuff bout boots n spurs n stuff but to me a cowboy is just a man that does what is asked of him and puts work and other people ahead of themselves. They do the things that need to be done before they go off drinking beer or whatever they do for pleasure.

And there is one quote that I believe in: you ain’t a cowboy till you’ve worked a full cowboy day.

I can’t say I’m a cowboy because that’s just not what we do. We don’t tell everyone that we know everything and we don’t gloat that were not afraid to get dirty.

What we do shows through the pride we have in our work. The pride we have when our cattle slip in the sale ring on sale day. The quite pride we have when our horse cuts out a cow. We don’t boast or brag that we know more then the next guy. We may not have the best language around but I guarantee well stop and listen to an elder talk or open a door for a woman. We’ll talk to a child like he was our own.

Our horse is God’s gift to us. We respect every aspect of this animal yet no boasting is necessary, we show through performance. Our pickup and trailer may not be the nicest but it’s ours and that’s enough for us. Whether we back into the box or open the gate to the pasture, we will always live a simple life with our lord to thank.
