Just because you have boots and spurs on, don’t make you country.
There are cowboys and cowgirls out there who aren’t in the rodeo business like ranchers and farmers. You don’t have to rodeo to be a cowboy. Where I come from if you have to have a horse to do your job on a daily basis that makes you a cowboy, a true cowboy doesn’t have to show off their skills at a rodeo they just face their daily tasks. After all, the true cowboys from the past never participated in a rodeo.

– Brantley Gilbert “Country Must be Country Wide”
With a few years behind me, I know! Cowboys aren’t born. Cowboys are self made men. We are a product of what we choose to be. It isn’t the hat that makes the cowboy. It’s the cowboys that make the hat. You people are describing an image not a way of life. Country boys live in and enjoy the country. Cowboys live on a ranch and make a living out of it. Farmers live on a farm and make a living out of it. That’s why they call it country dancing and not cowboy dancing……so everyone can enjoy.
Don’t drink water down stream from the herd.
Cowgirls lead, cowboys follow.
OK I have to have my 2 cents in this ..Just because you wear boots and hat or if you think you have a southern talk doesn’t make you a cowboy or cowgirl. But if you ride bulls or any other event you should be considered a cowboy or cowgirl. Because in Rodeo not one event is easy or not dangerous. Rodeo was made for cowboys and cowgirls so if you ride then you are one. You sure the heck don’t see city slickers out there riding bulls or horses. And yea cowboys and cowgirls do respect people. But not sit there and say to someone that they ain’t a cowboy or cowgirl AND THEY RIDE.
Always drink upstream from the herd.. And if you see a rope laying in my yard, be careful picking it up, there’s probably a horse on the other end of it.. Happy Trails.
